Training the Brain with LearningRx Irvine
Training the brain is no simple task. But with the right approach, anyone can improve the skills they need to become a stronger learner and thinker.
At LearningRx, we have spent more than 35 years researching, developing, and testing our cognitive training programs.
Our unique approach can help anyone train the brain’s core learning and thinking skills, including memory and attention. This approach can also help students address the root cause of learning difficulties and find help with reading, math, homework, and studying.
Want a closer look at how our approach works? Below, we’ll take a step-by-step look at how LearningRx can help you or your child with brain training.
The LearningRx Experience
Getting Started with Training the Brain
At LearningRx, training the brain starts with an individualized learning plan.
No two people have the same cognitive profile. Every person has their own cognitive strengths, as well as cognitive skills that can be improved. By customizing our approach to individual needs and goals, we can target the right skills for each learner and train the brain in the right areas.
To build an individualized plan for you or your child, we use a simple, three-step process:
#1 Introductory Discussion
When you contact us, we’ll get you started with a free, one-on-one discussion with your local LearningRx director. During this discussion, we can explore your training goals and discuss any difficulties you or your child is currently experiencing.
We’ll also answer any questions you have about brain training and give a demonstration of how our programs work! We can then schedule a Brain Skills Assessment.
#2 Brain Skills Assessment
Following your initial discussion, we conduct a cognitive assessment at your local Brain Training Center. Our Brain Skills Assessment measures overall cognitive performance, as well as individual skills. This tells us which cognitive skills are already strong and which areas can benefit from brain training.
We use the results to build a custom learning plan for you or your child, targeting the cognitive skills with the most room for growth.
#3 Personalized Learning Plan
After the Assessment, we’ll walk you through the results in a one-on-one consultation. This is an “Aha!” moment for many clients – you’ll finally have answers about why you or your child thrive in some areas, yet struggle in others!
We’ll also share the custom training plan we’ve developed for you or your child. Based on your input, we can make final adjustments to this plan and get started with brain training!
Our learning plans serve as a roadmap to stronger learning and thinking skills. By creating a custom plan for you or your child, we focus on training the brain skills with the most room for improvement and addressing the root cause of learning difficulties.
One-on-One Training for Brain Skills
Training the brain’s core skills can be a challenge for learners – but in a good way!
LearningRx offers the choice of in-person training or online training. Whatever type of training you choose, you or your child will be matched with a dedicated brain trainer, and each training session is conducted one-on-one! This way, every learner gets the attention, feedback, and encouragement they need during training.
While brain training can help anyone at any age, it can be especially helpful for students who are having trouble at school. When students have difficulties with reading, writing, math, or homework, the cause is often rooted in one or more cognitive skills. Brain training can help students build these skills and discover – or rediscover – a love of learning!
During each session, we use brain games, cognitive drills, and mental exercises to target specific skills. Our training sessions are designed as true mental workouts. The harder your brain works on the targeted skills, and the more frequently you practice them, the stronger these skills become!
The average training plan is about twenty-four weeks, with a few training sessions per week. This schedule allows students to build skills in a relatively short period of time. In research studies, kids and teens have improved their cognitive performance by several years compared to peers – all within a matter of months, not years!
Stronger Learning & Thinking Skills
After training, we perform a second Brain Skills Assessment. This way, we can measure the impact of training the brain on cognitive performance!
Over a nine-year period, we collected brain training results from more than 21,500 clients. The results from these Brain Skills Assessments showed that:
- The typical graduate saw across-the-board cognitive improvements, including gains in attention, working memory, long-term memory, and processing speed.
- Children and teens improved learning and thinking skills by +3.7 years on average compared to peers after graduating from LearningRx.
- Adult LearningRx clients improved IQ scores by +14 points on average after completing a brain training program.
Our research has also found gains in reading and math skills for students who have struggled in these areas, as well as improved learning and thinking skills for individuals with learning differences, like ADHD and dyslexia.
(Results based on studies and surveys of past clients. You or your child may or may not achieve the same results.)
