Left Brain Exercises from LearningRx Tysons
The brain is physically divided into two hemispheres, and while both hemispheres work together to perform cognitive tasks, it is generally thought that the left part of the brain processes information in more of a verbal, analytical manner, while the right part of the brain is more visual and intuitive.
There is debate as to how this all works, with more studies indicating that people don’t really “use” one side of their brain more than the other side and that “right-brained” or “left-brained” may be more of a figure of speech to describe personality traits and preferences.
Three Exercises to Boost Logical Thinking
Nevertheless, there are things you can do to enhance your verbal, logical side. Here are three left brain exercises you may want to try:
Exercise #1: Write About It
Writing pretty much anything—a letter, blog post, journal entries—is a great way to exercise your writing, spelling, and word composition, all activities that require some analytical thinking. Plus, limiting yourself to expressing your thoughts in a small space or word count (think Tweet!) really requires you to edit, plan, organize—all very logical tasks!
Exercise #2: Solve a Puzzle
Do a crossword puzzle, try your brain at some Sudoku, solve the mystery at a mystery dinner event, or visit an “escape room” in your city. Escape games are physical adventure games where you (and your friends) are locked in a room and must find your way out by solving puzzles and putting together clues around the room.
Exercise #3: Plan a New Way to Work Every Day for a Week
Planning and solving challenges are a great way to exercise your logic.
Use Brain Training to Exercise Core Cognitive Skills
Another way to boost your logic & reasoning skills is to strengthen the core cognitive skills the brain uses to think, learn, read, remember, reason, pay attention, and solve problems.
LearningRx brain training uses fun, challenging exercises to target the brain’s foundational cognitive skills, including attention, auditory processing, visual processing, memory, logic & reasoning.
