Local Student Wins 3rd in National Contest
Congratulations to our very own Evan—3rd place winner in LearningRx’s 2022 President’s Day contest!
What was the Contest?
Students are tasked with reciting all 46 US presidents in order from memory—while doing another task (definitely NOT an easy assignment!!)
How Do Students Learn the Presidents?
Every LearningRx student learns the Presidents over the course of their program. The tool we use is not just repetition, but a unique and fun visual memory technique.
Essentially, the students learn the Presidents by remembering a series of pictures. For example, a picture of a man watching a ton reminds them of Washington. A sun with hair on its head reminds them of Harrison. A $10 bill biting someone’s hand reminds them of Biden (bite-ten). These pictures connect in order to form a story so the students learn not only their names, but also the order—and get to where they can say them forwards AND backwards very quickly!
These pictures are the foundation of a visual memory procedure that the students then continue to learn new lists of words and facts, eventually giving them the tools they need to apply it in real life, too.
