San Antonio Student Who Never Thought College Was Possible Earns Academic Scholarship

Never say never.  That’s the first lesson 18-year-old Maddie Brown learned recently.  Second, the Reagan High School student discovered that LearningRx brain training not only helps short-term with learning ability but can change the direction of a young life.

MaddieBrown is proof. The high school senior who once struggled in school is now preparing to go to college on an academic scholarship.

“When I was in middle school, I didn’t even see college in my future,” Brown said. Boy, was Brown mistaken.

Brown is deciding between going to Seattle Pacific and Messiah University, in Pennsylvania, to study nursing.  She finished high school with an ‘A’ cumulative average and took several advanced placement courses. Maddie is active in her church and holds leadership positions.  

This is hardly the picture Maddie or her family would have dreamed up six years ago.  Most of her young life, Maddie struggled in and out of the classroom. 

For years Maddie’s parents tried tutoring and other academic-based programs to help their daughter.  But those usually ended in tears and many frustrations, according to Merrily and Randy Brown.  Maddie was barely passing her classes and lacked confidence and friends.  

That changed when the Brown family discovered LearningRx. Maddie was in 6th grade at the time.  Maddie’s cognitive assessment revealed weaknesses in processing speed and short-term memory.  So Maddie started a LearningRx brain training program. She trained intensively one-on-one with a certified trainer doing cognitive exercises to strengthen the weakest areas of her brain responsible for learning and thinking.

“In a 6-month period our daughter went from being in Special Education to taking Pre AP English, History, and Math,” Merrily Brown said. 

In addition, Maddie’s confidence skyrocketed.  

“When she started LearningRx, Maddie would barely make eye contact,” the Browns remembered.  “Maddie walked out a lively and outgoing person.”

Maddie’s newfound successes didn’t stop there. Maddie continued to blossom with each new year.  And she didn’t just do well.  Maddie earned all A’s while taking medical terminology courses too.  

“She could not have done this without LearningRx,” said Brown.  

Today, Maddie is also a vivacious reader and carries a book with her nearly everywhere she goes.  Her parents describe her as disciplined with schoolwork and responsibilities.  Maddie says she considers herself a self-starter.
