What Does Research Say About LearningRx Reading Training?

For years, we’ve been seeing the outcomes of ReadRx training for families in our local areas. Non-readers have come to love reading. Comprehension has grown. Reading becomes fun and less daunting. Kids finally *get it* after years of trial and error and various programs. But despite how great these personal experiences are, we are excited to have some NEW, promising and exciting scientific research on the LearningRx reading training program!

What Did the Study Examine?

The aims of this study were to examine:

  • The effects of ReadRx training on cognitive and reading skills
  • The association of ADHD, age, sex, IQ score, and individual cognitive skills at pretest on the effectiveness of ReadRx
  • And parent-reported behavioral outcomes following ReadRx.

Researchers analyzed a large real-world dataset to examine cognitive, reading, and behavioral outcomes for 3,527 struggling readers who had completed 24 weeks of ReadRx.

What Were the Results?

Results showed statistically significant changes on all cognitive and reading measures including attention, visual processing, processing speed, long-term memory, working memory, reasoning, phonological awareness, Word Attack, phonetic coding, spelling, comprehension, and overall IQ score with medium to very large effect sizes.

In only 24 weeks of ReadRx training, individuals gained an average of:

  • 4.1 skill years in reading skills
  • Nearly 6 skill years in phonological awareness
  • 5.5 years in phonetic coding
  • 2.2 years in spelling skills
  • 2.9 years in Word Attack
  • And nearly 14 points in IQ scores.

These numbers are pretty exciting for kids who continue to fall behind in reading. The ability to catch up—and even excel—may be in reach for many families who are struggling!

Will ReadRx Work for Kids with ADHD or Learning Challenges?

No differences in results were found based on age, sex, or ADHD status. Only minimal differences were found based on pre-intervention IQ score and cognitive test scores.

What this means for you is that regardless of academic history, ADHD diagnosis, and what you’ve tried before, this option may be a way to gain years of progress in a short amount of time.*

Real-Life Benefits from LearningRx Reading Training

In addition to these gains in reading, spelling, decoding, and cognitive skills, participants also included qualitative benefits to the training. Some of the most often-reported themes included:

  • Improved cognition and reasoning skills
  • Better academic performance
  • Greater confidence and perseverance
