Research Supporting the LearningRx Reading Program
Several research studies have shown changes in the brain after LearningRx brain training, and the stories we hear from clients continue to amaze us (read some of them here). With more and more students struggling with reading, we are excited to announce that we have an exciting new study on the effects of the LearningRx reading program!

About the Study
The aims of this study were to examine:
- The effects of ReadRx on cognitive and reading skills;
- The association of ADHD, age, sex, IQ score, and individual cognitive skills at pretest on the effectiveness of ReadRx;
- And parent-reported behavioral outcomes following ReadRx.
The study followed over 3,500 clients and examined their test scores and reported outcomes following 24 weeks of ReadRx training.
What Were the Results?*
Here’s a quick summary of what researchers found…
Growth in reading skills and more
In 24 weeks of training, the research study on ReadRx showed:
- Statistically significant changes on all cognitive and reading measures including attention, visual processing, processing speed, long-term memory, working memory, reasoning, phonological awareness, Word Attack, phonetic coding, spelling, comprehension, and overall IQ score.
- An average gain across five reading skills of 4.1 years
- An average gain in phonological awareness of nearly 6 years
- An average gain in spelling of 2.2 years
- As well as an average gain in IQ score of nearly 14 points
These results are especially promising for struggling readers who feel like they’re so far behind they’ll never catch up. LearningRx’s approach of building strong cognitive skills first is an important factor that many other interventions miss!

Real-life improvements
Beyond these score improvements, parents reported changes in their students during the 24 weeks of training. Themes of these reports included things like:
- Improvements in overall cognition (focus, memory, ease of learning, etc.)
- Better academic performance
- Confidence, perseverance, and other psychosocial skills

Similar results for kids with ADHD
“But how do I know this will work for my child?” is a common question we hear at LearningRx.
While every brain and situation is unique, another promising aspect of this research study was that it showed no differences in results based on age, sex, or ADHD status, and only minimal differences based on pre-intervention IQ score and cognitive test scores.
