Can Brain Training Help with ADHD?

ADHD comes with a lot of highs and lows. Many people with this cognitive difference find it to be a source of energy, creativity, and spontaneity. But it can also lead to plenty of learning challenges. For kids, teens, and adults, it’s important to find the right support—which may include medication, therapy, and one-on-one help, like brain training.

Today, we’re taking a deep dive into brain training—what it is, how it works, and whether it’s the right choice for you and your learner.

First and foremost: what is it? At LearningRx, we offer training programs to help students target and strengthen their learning skills. These are formative cognitive skills, like working memory, logic, and focus, which are required for effective learning, thinking, processing, and remembering.

When students of any age strengthen these skills, they can become more effective learners! As they do so, they can build their confidence and tap into new abilities—discovering their unique potential.

Let’s review how it works, and how it can be a benefit to those with cognitive differences.

A Crash Course in Brain Training

How Brain Training Works

Just like our body uses certain muscles to complete activities, our brains also draw on certain skills while learning, reading, and thinking. And just like our muscles can be strengthened through dedicated personal training, our cognitive skills can similarly be activated and honed through brain training!

  •  A personalized approach. Everyone has different skills, strengths, and abilities. To help each learner advance, we take a personalized approach with their cognitive profile in mind. That way, each student can target those skills and areas where they wish to improve.
  • Dynamic learning. Our personalized programs are a breath of fresh air from the classroom environment. In each session, students take part in dynamic, intense exercises and games, which are designed to give them a great mental workout.
  • One-on-one. Similar to a personal trainer, each student is partnered with a dedicated brain trainer. That means each client gets focused attention and feedback and is motivated to take on new challenges as they progress through their specific program.

Our Track Record with ADHD and Cognitive Differences

At LearningRx, we welcome students of all ages and abilities—including kids, teens, and adults. Whether your student needs a challenge or they need extra support, brain training can be a great option. That’s true for those with cognitive differences, too.

Between 2010 and 2021, we assessed students of all ages who completed a LearningRx program. Those diagnosed with learning differences—including ADHD as well as speech delays, autism, and dyslexia—reported seeing improvements in cognitive skills across the board.

That wasn’t just limited to kids and teenagers. These benefits were reported for adult learners as well.

Results based on research studies or past LearningRx clients. You or your child may or may not achieve the same results.

How Learners with ADHD Can Benefit

When it comes to managing ADHD, having the right support in place can make a huge difference. At LearningRx, we champion neurodiversity, with a strengths-based approach that’s designed to help every learner excel. Here’s how students with ADHD can benefit:

  • Targeting specific skills. Brain training can focus on targeting those specific cognitive skills—such as attention, memory, and processing speed—that students struggle with. In the process, students can also pick up practical strategies for homework, reading, math, and more.
  • One-on-one motivation. With our training programs, students are supported by a one-on-one brain trainer who helps them stay motivated and engaged throughout each session. This can be especially helpful for those with cognitive differences!
  • Gaining confidence. The challenges related to ADHD can be demoralizing for any learner. Building resilience can help students tackle their difficulties more easily. With our dynamic approach, we encourage learners to take on new challenges with confidence and enthusiasm.
