What Is Neuroplasticity and Why Does It Matter?
Neuroplasticity is our brain’s ability to change. To change our intelligence and related skills like memory, processing speed, and reasoning.
Just like you can train any muscle, you can train your brain. Why does this matter? Because it gives hope to individuals who have diagnosis like ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, or traumatic brain injuries (TBI).
What does it take to change brain function?
Although the brain can change, it does take significant training. In the same way that I may want to change the way my body functions so I can run a marathon, to take advantage of neuroplasticity required training 2-3 times per week in an intense manner.
This is what we do at LearningRx. In fact, we have 17 peer-previewed and published research studies today and in some of these, we have been able to do fMRI scans to see the changes in brain function and connectivity due to our training. We were published in The Journal of Neuroimaging due to these findings.
The other reason neuroplasticity matters, is that it enables us to address the root cause of a difficulty like attention or reading fluency, not focus on the symptom or provide accommodations like tutoring or some school interventions do.
If you or a loved one is struggling or has a diagnosis like ADHD, dyslexia, autism or a TBI, call the Eagan LearningRx center at 651-686-1066 to find out how we can help. The first step is to schedule an initial assessment which is currently $100 off the standard price of $199.
