So Many Options for ADHD

Kilian's Testimony - with captions

As parents seek attention help or ADHD help, it can be overwhelming given there are so many options for ADHD.

Meet Kilian.  Kilian was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age and his mom, Anne, tried everything to help him.  Before LearningRx, Kilian had done ADHD medication, ADHD coaching, counseling, tutoring and he had an IEP.  However, these strategies were not helping.  When Kilian entered junior high, his struggles heightened. He struggled with executive function and struggled to complete assignments or even remember that he had an assignment due.   They tried the “stick” method to help Kilian as he was now given detentions when he had late or missed assignments. This strategy did not help as it was clear Kilian was trying but he just could not do it.

Anne was referred to LearningRx by a friend and Kilian started his LearningRx training in high school.  They had finally found a solution.  Unlike other strategies like ADHD medication and tutoring, LearningRx focuses on addressing the root cause of attention struggles whereas other strategies or more a Band-Aid focused on addressing the symptoms.  It became clear the root cause of Kilian’s ADHD difficulties was due to low processing speed as well as working memory.  This is common for this who struggle with attention.  In fact, LearningRx peer-reviewed research published in the Journal of Mental Health and Clinical Psychology shows that, for those diagnosed with ADHD, attention is not usually their weakest skill, it is often processing speed.  Processing speed can cause attention issues as individuals are required to use much more mental energy to keep up or complete a task leading to a lack of sustained attention.  By strengthening processing speed and addressing the root cause, ADHD symptoms can often be minimized and performance improved.

This was the case for Kilian.  He finished his academic career on the honor roll and was accepted to the University of Minnesota to study his passion – architecture.  Kilian recently earned his degree – something his mother did not believe was possible years earlier.
