Toddlers Who Play With Dad Do Better Academically

You may have read the study saying that kids get their intelligence from their mothers, but that’s not to say that dads don’t have an equally important influence on their children. In fact, a study from the University of Newcastle recent reported that toddlers whose dads play with them “with warmth and encouragement” tend to excel in reading and math results in elementary school. In a review on worldwide research into a father’s role in child development, the researchers found that stimulating activities that including drawing and counting were linked to higher literacy, numeracy and fine motor skills. This was after other demographic factors (as well as other caregivers’ interactions) were taken into consideration. It was a huge sample size to draw from, with more than 87,000 fathers from 38 countries. And there’s plenty more to back up the findings.
