Imagine Your Ideal Life with Marie Kondo Before beginning a tidying or organization task in your space, Marie Kondo recommends setting an intention for your space. Take a moment to imagine your ideal lifestyle in the space. Marie says, “When you imagine your ideal lifestyle, you are really clarifying why you want to tidy and envisioning your best life. The tidying process represents a turning point – so seriously consider the ideal lifestyle to which you aspire.” It’s easy to jump into a project and start cleaning up a space, but its important to take a moment and decide how you want the space to work for you. When you decide on an intention, you can be more efficient with your tidying time and effort. For example, if you are organizing your office, you may want to think about the work you would like to achieve and how your space can help you be more productive. Make it Visible with The Home Edit If you are hoping to make a few diet changes in your life, it makes sense to stock up your fridge with healthy staples. A simple way to make reaching for those foods easier is to make them more visible. Avoid putting all the cut fruit and veggies in the back of a drawer. The Home Edit ladies put it this way: “The best way to start is by organizing your fridge and reworking the system. When healthy items are visible, easy to access, and easy to prepare, you’ll be a lot less likely to cave, which for me means ordering delivery and calling it a day.” This tip can apply to many areas of life. If we don’t see something, we tend to forget about it and move on. Use this tip to bring the things that are important to you to the front and where you can see them. Categorize and Place with Cassandra Aarssen Our homes are full of various objects, and it can be hard to know where to put each item. We have all heard the term of “finding a home” for each item, but sometimes that isn’t enough to prevent the item from getting lost. What might help us keep track of items is by grouping like things together and placing things where you use it. Cassandra Aarssen says, “Organization means storing things close to where you use it so that it’s really easy to put away.” For example, some people aren’t hangar people and so categorizing a zone for coats on a coat rack in the entry way may help keep those like items together and categorized.
