Blue light may help heal TBI If you or someone you love has suffered a concussion or traumatic brain injury (TBI), you may know that difficulty sleeping can be a significant symptom. But a new study funded by the United States military has found that a blue light can help heal mild TBI simply by allowing them to get a good night’s sleep. Exposure to blue light tells the brain it’s time to be alert. By using a blue light from a cube-like device for30 minutes early each morning for 6 weeks, the study participants were able to mimic a natural circadian rhythm that helped suppressed the brain’s production of melatonin. This allowed them to fall asleep and stay asleep better at night. In turn, more sleep helped them better recover from a concussion/mTBI.
