Struggling Student Blossoms After Personal Brain Training

One of our favorite success stories at LearningRx is that of Vivian, a 5th-grader who suffered from headaches, stomachaches, and daily anxiety about going to school.

School Struggles

Vivian needed extra help in reading and math and often seemed distracted and struggled to keep up with her peers. Her parents knew that with the approach of middle school, Vivian would need outside help to ensure she could handle the increased workload and pressures at the next level.

“A lot of it was confusion with math problems,” says her dad, Kyle. “By the time [she] got to the end of the problem, she couldn’t remember what the start of the problem was.”

Kyle says Vivian was just trying to keep up in math class and struggled with math problems in particular.

“I didn’t feel like I was smart enough,” says Vivian. “And I felt like the class was going to make fun of me one day and I just didn’t want to go back.”

Enrolling in Brain Training

They enrolled her in LearningRx, where she did a combination of in-person training and virtual training due to COVID-19.

After completing her brain training program, Vivian saw significant improvements. In fact, her parents said she has become “a completely different kid” and that her confidence and brain skills improved so much that she was placed in advanced math in sixth grade!

“She’s still one of the slower, more thoughtful kids in class,” explains Vivian’s mom, Sarah, “but she isn’t scared about that anymore. Her hand will go up to ask a question in front of the whole class now. She doesn’t sit in silence lost.”

Vivian’s parents say that LearningRx had a “profound effect” on Vivian’s day-to-day life and that they’re “so glad” they made the investment.

“Middle school next year will be so much easier for her to handle,” explains her mom. “It’s still middle school and will involve change and challenge, but Vivian isn’t paralyzed by the fear of not being able to keep up anymore. She learned strategies and did the work to get her sweet mind to work easier. It’s been fun to watch her fear less and work hard!”

“After LearningRx, I actually feel more confident,” says Vivian. “I like school a lot more and I feel like I’m as smart as everyone else. I feel more like myself—instead of just staying quiet. … and I try more new things. … I’m much happier now! LearningRx is amazing and pushed me to do things I didn’t think I could do.”

Post Brain Training

It’s not surprising that Vivian feels happier and more confident since completing her personal brain training program. Renewed confidence is common feedback we receive from families after their student finishes their LearningRx program!

Vivian’s improvements were so significant that she won an award. She was chosen from thousands of students across the country to be LearningRx’s 2021 Student of the Year. The annual honor is given to one LearningRx graduate across the entire U.S.. The decision is based on their efforts and improvements from personal brain training.
