The 411 on LearningRx’s Brain Booster Program for Adults Wondering about our Brain Booster program? Here’s a quick overview. It happens to the best of us. We’ll forget someone’s name right after they tell us, walk into the kitchen with no recollection of why we went in there, or struggle to keep up with our younger co-workers as they crank out work at a superhuman pace. While our brain does tend to feel a little less sharp with every passing birthday, it doesn’t have to be an inevitable part of aging. In fact, we now know that neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to change at any age—can be used to our advantage. And that’s exactly why we created our Brain Booster® programs. Designed to boost brain fitness in adults, our Brain Booster program can give your brain a workout and boost brain performance. It’s a unique way to strengthen the thinking skills you use at work and in everyday life, including memory, attention span, and processing speed! (We also offer a Brain Booster program for LearningRx graduates who want to extend their brain training programs. In addition, we offer Brain Strong Memberships, which are a perfect fit for LearningRx graduates who want to keep practicing and reinforcing the skills they built during their initial training. Understanding Brain Skills Also known as “cognitive skills,” brain skills are the tools your brain uses to think, read, learn, reason, pay attention, and reason. Working together, they take incoming information and move it into the bank of knowledge. But if even one of these skills isn’t boosted for maximum performance, it can impact your ability to grasp, retain, and use that information. For most people, these skills lose a bit of their edge as we age, though again, it’s not inevitable! At LearningRx, we’ve put our 35 years of research to good use, developing programs designed to target and train these skills to make learning and performing faster and easier. What skills exactly? The three types of attention, logic & reasoning, auditory and visual processing, processing, and the two types of attention. Need more specifics? Check out this list of cognitive skills, as well as the struggles you may be experiencing if a particular skill is weak: Attention/Sustained What it does: Enables you to stay focused and on task for a sustained period of time.Common problems when this skill is weak: Lots of unfinished projects, jumping from task to task. Attention/Selective What it does: Enables you to stay focused and on a task despite distractions.Common problems when this skill is weak: Easily distracted. Memory/Working (or Short-Term) What it does: Enables you to hang on to information while in the process of using it.Common problems when this skill is weak: Having to read the directions again in the middle of a project, difficulty following multi-step directions, forgetting what was just said in a conversation. Logic & Reasoning What it does: Enables you to reason, form ideas, and solve problems.Common problems when this skill is weak: Frequently asking, “What do I do next?” or saying, “I don’t get this,” struggling with math, feeling stuck or overwhelmed. Visual Processing What it does: Enables you to think in visual images.Common problems when this skill is weak: Difficulties understanding what you’ve just read, remembering what you’ve read, following directions, reading maps, doing word math problems. Processing Speed What it does: Enables you to perform tasks quickly and accurately.Common problems when this skill is weak: Most tasks are more difficult. Taking a long time to complete tasks for school or work, frequently being the last one in a group to finish something.
