LearningRx Owner Shares the Power of Mindset with Taekwondo National Team
It was an honor for LearningRx Costa Mesa-Irvine’s owner Noha Marwan to be invited to coach Egypt’s Taekwondo National team as they prepare for their upcoming World competition in Korea! Noha’s talk entitled “The Power of Your Mind” was part of the team’s preparation. Mindset is everything when it comes to success in sports, the classroom, or your workplace. Noha received amazing feedback from this event as team members broke barriers and experienced great success!
Why Does Mindset Matter?
Your brain is always active and always taking in the world around you. As we develop patterns of doubt and insecurity through our childhood and beyond, our mindset can become our biggest barrier to success.
Even outside the classroom in sports, workplaces, and more, the power of mental readiness and resilience is extraordinary. In order to have a confident, successful life you want your mind to be able to:
- Cope with changes
- Respond appropriately and quickly
- And bounce back from setbacks
And these things are just as true in taekwondo as they are in the classroom or workplace!
Noha talked the team through the power of their thoughts, how mindset shifts can affect the reality around them, and ways to push themselves to succeed beyond where they thought they were capable.
How Cognitive Skills Impact All Areas of Life
No matter what activities you find yourself in, cognitive skills are important. They are not just for the classroom; instead, they can impact the way your brain takes in the world around you and responds.
For the Taekwondo team, Noha focused on the importance of logic & reasoning and visual processing.
Logic & Reasoning and Building a Resilient Mindset
These are some of he ways logic & reasoning skills are important:
- Setting goals
- Making decisions
- Establishing priorities in the heat of the moment
- Charting your course
These are the skills your brain uses whether you’re facing an opponent in a sport or facing a tight deadline at the office.
Building your logic & reasoning skills allows you to appropriately establish priorities (even subconsciously) so you know where to spend your energy. Being able to quickly and accurately reason your way through a situation leads to greater confidence and success in all areas of life!
Visualization: Picture Yourself Achieving Your Goals
The power of visualization was a critical piece to Noha’s training with these athletes. Picturing the scenario, working through all your options, and creating a plan to achieve those goals in literal mental pictures is a powerful way to shift your mindset to one that is open to success.
After Noha’s visual training, several athletes were instantly able to achieve moves they had been working on. They broke limits, exceeded expectations, and achieved amazing results—not through more technical training or practice (even though these are important—but through reframing their mindset.
Retrain Your Brain for Greater Success
We naturally fall into these toxic patterns of self-doubt and uncertainty. It takes conscious effort to reframe these thoughts and create a mindset that makes room for success!
Get rid of negative self-talk. Acknowledge growth and little victories. Create a mindset that is resilient to persevere. These are all parts of every training session at LearningRx.
This is why even if our clients come to us for help with something like reading, they walk away with greater confidence in all areas of their lives!
