Reading Help in Irvine
Strong reading skills open the door to a lifetime of learning and imagination. At LearningRx, our reading help programs offer a way to build these skills in readers of all ages!
LearningRx reading programs are designed to build a foundation of core reading skills and improve reading comprehension. We help young readers develop the fundamental skills they need for reading, and we help readers of all ages strengthen their reading abilities.
Our reading programs help early readers build a foundation of strong reading skills. We have also helped students who are having trouble reading as quickly or easily as their peers, including readers with dyslexia and reading comprehension difficulties.
Between 2010 and 2018, over 9,000 students completed a LearningRx reading program. These students improved reading skills by 3.5 years on average compared to peers. In another study, more than 90% of LearningRx graduates improved their performance on state tests for reading achievement!
(Results based on studies and surveys of past clients. You or your child may or may not achieve the same results.)

How We Help with Reading
Personalized Training to Build Reading Skills
Strong reading skills depend on a number of distinct skills working at the same time. Readers need to be able to:
- Quickly recognize words in written text
- Sound out unfamiliar words based on spelling
- Process complex sentences and language
- Create mental images while reading
- Retain important information
At LearningRx, brain training helps each reader build the foundational skills they need for a lifetime of reading.
To do this, we tailor our programs to each client’s existing skill set. We start with a Brain Skills Assessment to measure existing cognitive skills. This way, we can design each reader’s training plan to focus on the areas where reading help can offer the biggest benefits.
Brain Training for Reading & Reading Comprehension
Brain training works by strengthening the brain through mental games and exercises. It’s a lot like personal training, except that it targets cognitive skills instead of muscle groups! Our reading help programs are designed to specifically target the skills each learner needs to become a stronger reader.
Our ReadRx® reading program builds fundamental reading skills. This program teaches reading and spelling concurrently through techniques that train clients to accurately recognize and understand that letters and letter combinations stand for specific sounds of speech.
ReadRx® is an ideal fit for readers who are learning to read for the first time, or who are having trouble reading as quickly and easily as their peers.
We also improve reading comprehension through a program called ComprehendRx®. This program focuses on skills like reading speed, vocabulary, and critical thinking, as well as self-directed strategies for becoming a stronger reader.
ComprehendRx® is a great choice for readers who have strong fundamental reading skills and want to improve their higher-level reading abilities.
Brain Training or Reading Tutoring?
If you’re trying to improve your reading skills, or if you’re looking for reading help for your child, your instinct might be to start with a reading tutor.
While reading tutoring can help for some students, it might not be the best fit for you or your child. That’s because reading tutoring tends to focus on practicing reading and memorizing spelling. This requires strong underlying cognitive skills. If these underlying skills haven’t been developed, a reading tutor might not be the right choice.
Brain training offers a way to build these skills, which are at the root of most reading struggles. Rather than simply repeating content and memorizing words, brain training gives readers the skills they need to become more intuitive, independent, and confident readers.
