LearningRX

ADHD and Executive Function

Noah came to LearningRx his senior year and had been struggling as a result of his ADHD and executive function difficulties.  His parents had tried many interventions over the years, but strategies like tutoring, ADHD coaching and school interventions did not help Noah get past these difficulties.

His dad shared that they were hoping his LearningRx training would “teach Noah skills for accomplishing goals with his Neurodiverse brain. Give him the ability to absorb and comprehend.  And help his ability to focus to complete the work and projects that needed to get done.”

Noah’s initial assessment revealed the root cause as to why he was struggling in these areas.  Noah had deficits in long-term memory, working memory, processing speed and auditory processing.  Even though Noah was bright – he had strong reasoning skills – his difficulties with working memory and processing speed resulted in organizational struggles and often being overwhelmed (executive function struggles).  Long-term memory made test taking difficult as well as absorbing the information from lectures.  By the time he was in his senior year, his difficulties were impacting his self-esteem and motivation.

Noah worked hard in his training and had a great experience.  He shared, “It felt like everyone working there really cared and wanted to see me grow!”  As the program progressed, he was experiencing greater success.  At the end of his program, Noah saw his cognitive weaknesses become strengths and, more importantly, these gains were transferring to much greater success.  His dad shared, “Our son had struggled with ADHD and OCD for many years through school. School continually struggled to meet his needs and adapt to someone that thinks differently. Learning Rx has been absolutely life changing in the success of our son. His score improvements was a testament to that. The larger changes we saw were in day-to-day thinking, problem solving, attention to details, staying on track with a schedule and overall increased confidence was clear. The only thing is I wished we had found Learning Rx earlier in his school career. It was ABSOLUTELY worth every penny we put into his time here.

The entire team at Learning Rx was inviting, helpful and extremely friendly. They went above and beyond to not only help us as parents but were critical to all the success our son has seen.”
