Getting to the Root Cause of Attention Issues!
When students struggle with attention issues (or ADHD) it often undermines their abilities and mutes how intelligent they are. That’s because attention is the gateway to engaging key skills like logic and reasoning, which is a very strong skill for many students who struggle with attention and focus issues.
So why do some students struggle with attention while others do not. A study published in the Journal of Mental Health and Clinic Psychology found that, in addition to the expected deficits in attention skills, participants showed even larger deficits in working memory and processing speed. This means that interventions for those with ADHD, in addition to addressing attention skills, should also focus on enhancing memory and processing speed.
LearningRx provides the training and support needed to improve these vital cognitive skills in your students, helping them learn more effectively, grow in confidence, and develop a true love for learning.
Take recent LearningRx graduate, Matthew. Matthew came to us because he could not stay on task, keep up or follow directions. As a result of his training, his parents state, “He is more calm and confident. He’s more aware, tuned in, is doing better in school and better able to follow directions. His general processing of information has improved as well.”
What drove the change for Matthew? We identified the root cause of his attention issues – working memory and processing speed weaknesses. These lower skills made it difficult for Matthew to sustain his focus and hold and organize his thoughts. The symptoms manifested as attention issues, but the root cause were these lower skills.
If you or your child struggles with attention, don’t settle for strategies that only address the symptom. Call LearningRx in Eagan to identify and address the root cause!
