Holiday Letter Writing, and why it’s fun!
At last, it’s the holiday season! After a long 11 months of the turbulent 2022, we’re finally encroaching upon the most exciting occasion of this time of year—
Letter Writing Day! We’ve reached Letter Writing Day, the day designed to honor the tradition of written correspondence to your dearest loved ones. Okay, it may not be the most anticipated event of the season. But, it is definitely in the holiday spirit!
According to timeanddate.com’s article “Fun Holiday— Letter Writing Day,” this day is a celebration of written language, dedication, and the display of love that comes from sending a letter to someone you care about. And beyond that, it’ll get you working on your language and writing skills! What better way to practice language than to focus said writing on someone or something you love? Repeatedly putting one’s emotions and thoughts in a conversational and readable format can bolster speed or accuracy of communication and can even help improve reading and writing skills in an academic or professional setting.
So what’s stopping you? Make letter writing fun and write a festive holiday card to a friend you haven’t seen in a while! And if that goes well, don’t feel the need to stop. Letter writing is an artform that goes back centuries. Keep that tradition going and write letters all year! It’s a wonderful way to keep track of your busy lives, express your feelings regularly, and exercise those reading and writing skills. If you don’t want to waste stamps, it doesn’t even have to be to someone else— write a letter to yourself! Work out a problem you’ve been mulling over or write a letter to tuck away and look back at years later to see how you’ve grown. Keep your heart and mind open and don’t be afraid to give yourself the gift of honest, written expression this holiday season.
