LearningRx Cognitive Assessment FAQs
When you or your child struggles with learning, attention, or memory, the first step to understanding the root cause is often an assessment. At LearningRx, our cognitive assessment provides valuable insights into how the brain processes information. Here are some common questions people have about our assessment and how it fits into the larger picture of learning.
Does your cognitive assessment diagnose learning disabilities?
No, our cognitive assessment does not provide a diagnosis for learning disabilities. Instead, it focuses on evaluating core cognitive skills such as memory, attention, processing speed, and reasoning. These are the brain’s tools for learning.
While a diagnosis like dyslexia or ADHD might describe a pattern of challenges, our assessment digs into why those challenges exist by measuring the strength of specific cognitive skills. Understanding these skill levels can offer powerful insights into struggles with learning or attention, whether or not a formal diagnosis is in place.
Do I need a learning disability diagnosis before I can start with LearningRx?
No, you don’t need a formal diagnosis to begin working with us. While some families seek brain training after receiving a diagnosis, many come to us because they notice their child or themselves are struggling but don’t have a clear label for the problem. Our cognitive assessment helps pinpoint which cognitive skills may be weak and contributing to those struggles, providing a customized training plan regardless of whether a formal learning disability has been identified.
How long does the cognitive assessment take?
The cognitive assessment typically takes about an hour and a half to two hours to complete. During this time, a trained cognitive specialist will administer a series of tasks designed to measure different cognitive skills. After the assessment, we schedule a consultation to review the results with you in detail, explaining each finding and how it may be affecting learning or performance in school, work, or daily life.
What answers will I get that I don’t already have?
The cognitive assessment provides answers to why learning struggles are happening. Instead of focusing on surface symptoms like poor grades or trouble focusing, it identifies specific cognitive weaknesses.
For example, you may already know your child struggles to stay on task or has trouble with reading comprehension. Our assessment will show if those struggles are due to weak attention skills, poor memory, slow processing speed, or something else. This detailed understanding allows us to create a targeted brain training program to improve those underlying skills.
Is the cognitive assessment only for kids?
No, the assessment is not just for kids. We work with people of all ages, from children to adults. Whether you’re a parent concerned about your child’s academic performance, a teenager preparing for college, or an adult dealing with memory or attention challenges at work, the assessment helps us provide answers about what’s going on in your brain’s ability to process the world around you. Brain training isn’t just for kids—adults can also benefit from improving cognitive skills for better focus, memory, and productivity.
Our cognitive assessment at LearningRx is a powerful tool for understanding the why behind learning struggles. Whether or not a diagnosis is in place, our assessment evaluates key cognitive skills to help you or your child overcome challenges and succeed in learning and life.
