Aiden was a bright student but because he had cognitive weaknesses in areas like long and short-term memory, auditory processing and processing speed, he hated school and working with him at home was a constant battle for his parents. Lots of anger with many items being thrown in frustration!
In Aiden’s assessment, we were able to identify the root cause of Aiden’s struggles to work independently and his frustration level. His parents had tried tutoring, but did not see improvement because tutoring doesn’t address the root cause of learning struggles, it just treats the symptoms. If a child struggles to learn in school, tutoring is just doing more of the same thing in a different setting. However, if cognitive weaknesses exist, this will be a fruitless effort and usually ends in frustration.
