Brain Training in Savage
When your child is diagnosed with dyslexia, it’s easy to worry. The good news is that many children with dyslexia thrive at school and later in life! With the right kind of Brain Training, it’s possible to build stronger reading skills and overcome learning difficulties. Even adults with dyslexia can strengthen reading skills! At LearningRx, we have helped thousands of kids, teens, and adults with dyslexia and other reading disorders. We have 35+ years of experience helping clients with reading difficulties, and we’ve built our programs through rigorous research and practice in this area. Today, roughly 1 in 10 students at LearningRx has come to us for help with dyslexia!
While brain training isn’t a cure for dyslexia, it has helped kids and adults with dyslexia become stronger readers. Our reading and reading comprehension programs include help with:
- Recognizing letters by shape
- Connecting letters to speech sounds
- Sounding out words while reading
- Spelling and vocabulary
- Reading comprehension skills
Between 2010 and 2018, we provided Brain Training to more than 2,200 school-aged learners. After brain training, these students improved their learning and thinking skills by 3.6 years on average. Even more impressive, the average student improved by 5.7 years in auditory processing – the cognitive skill most commonly linked to reading difficulties!
(Results based on past clients. You or your child may or may not achieve the same results.)
Brain Training for Learners with Dyslexia & Reading Disorders
Individual Training Plans for Reading Difficulties
At LearningRx, brain training plans are tailored to each learner’s individual needs. For kids, teens, and adults with reading struggles, we focus on the root cause of these difficulties.
Studies have shown that most readers with dyslexia have trouble identifying sounds in written language and sounding out words based on spelling. This is known as phonological dyslexia, which is rooted in a cognitive skill called auditory processing.
While auditory processing is the most common root cause of dyslexia, it isn’t the only cause of reading difficulties. In people with surface dyslexia, for example, reading difficulties may be tied to other cognitive skills, like visual processing.
At LearningRx, every learner gets a custom training plan. This allows us to tailor brain training for different types of dyslexia and reading difficulties. Before training, we review the learner’s history and perform a Brain Skills Assessment. Based on this information, we can identify, target, and strengthen the right cognitive skills for each reader.
Help with Reading Skills & Reading Disorders
LearningRx offers Brain Training through brain training, which uses brain games and mental exercises to strengthen how the mind learns and thinks.
Every learner is partnered with a dedicated brain trainer who leads these games and exercises. The learner strengthens a specific skill or set of skills during each activity. When providing help with dyslexia, we focus on underlying cognitive skills tied to reading difficulties – like auditory processing skills.
Our brain training programs for learners with reading disorders include ReadRx®, a reading program that targets fundamental reading skills.
ReadRx® places a special focus on auditory processing and teaches a sound-to-code reading system. This gives students the core skills they need to identify speech sounds in text, sound out words based on spelling, and recognize words while reading. Most learners with dyslexia have trouble with these skills, making ReadRx® a great fit!
Brain Training or Dyslexia Tutoring?
While many tutoring services offer dyslexia tutoring, these programs often approach dyslexia in a much different way from brain training.
Many dyslexia tutoring programs will accommodate reading difficulties instead of building reading skills. Tutors will often deliver information in alternative formats (like using pictures instead of words), or they might assist the student with reading and writing tasks. While this can improve grades, it doesn’t address the root cause of reading difficulties.
Brain training, on the other hand, targets the root cause of reading difficulties. Rather than finding workarounds for students with dyslexia, our brain training plans focus on improving reading skills. By improving these skills, students with reading difficulties may become more confident and more successful learners on their own.
