Improving Attention Skills
We work with many individuals who struggles with attention issues or diagnosed with ADHD – combined type or inattentive.
Lupe came to us due to these difficulties. Usually, when students struggle with attention (ADHD), it is due to a combination of other weaknesses that manifest as attention issues. The most common being processing speed. When cognitive skills are not where they need to be, the brain works harder to complete tasks and it becomes difficult to maintain that high level of energy. As a result, individuals zone out or get distracted.
For Lupe, his processing speed jumped from the 22nd to the 94th percentile resulting in a greater ability to sustain his focus and attention. He is reporting big improvements in his ability to stay on task.
A peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of Mental Health and Clinical Psychology demonstrated that it is critical to address the weak cognitive skills contributing to the attention issues.
Other strategies – ADHD medication or ADHD coaching strategies – are working around or accommodating the attention issues. LearningRx training focuses on addressing the root cause and actually improving attention so that ideally medication and strategies to work around attention struggles are not needed.
If you or a loved one struggles with attention, gives the Woodbury center a call. We can schedule an initial assessment for only $99 to identify the root cause so that attention can be improved.
