Noah’s Academic Struggles
Noah’s academic struggles in reading, comprehension, writing and math led his parents to seek help. His test scores were low and his parents were looking for reading and math help as well as ways to improve reading comprehension and writing. They considered tutoring, but it seemed like more of the same that hadn’t been working in school. A friend who had experienced similar academic struggles mentioned how much LearningRx had helped their child, so they reached out.
They were intrigued with what they heard at LearningRx. The focus was not tutoring but identifying the root cause of Noah’s struggles and providing 1-on-1 cognitive skills training to address the root cause of Noah’s struggles. They also knew that tutoring would be more of a band aid strategy to help Noah get through the school year, but that he would likely need tutoring year after year as the expectations in reading and math increased.
Noah’s initial assessment revealed weaknesses in memory, reasoning, auditory processing, processing speed and word attack. These core cognitive skills enable effective reading, comprehension, writing and math. Noah started his 1-on-1 training with the focus on improving these core skills and in turn improving his academics.
They loved the positive and encouraging environment and Noah thrived in training. He is now above grade level in 2nd grade and Noah has a love for reading. He is also more persistent in working through difficult tasks where he used to give up quickly.
